Achievement of this competency is demonstrated by indicators such as:
- Supporting the school community in understanding the legal frameworks and policies that provide the foundations for the Alberta education system;
- Representing the needs of students at the community, school authority and provincial levels;
- Engaging local community partners to understand local contexts;
- Demonstrating an understanding of local, provincial, national and international issues and trends and their implications for education; and
- Facilitating school community members’ understanding of local, provincial, national and international issues and trends related to education.
Evidence
- Currently responding to Stavely Community needs of before and after school care, in conjunction with the Town of Stavely and FCSS;
- Developed a Stavely School Career Fair for Stavely School and all neighbouring schools to allow access to a variety of careers for all students;
- Worked with Dr. Chris Mattatall, 2023 Board of Governors Teaching Chair, to facilitate Stavely School parent information sessions regarding neuroscience and brain development;
- Developed a lending library of parent resources and family games;
- Working with community partners, such as Stavely FCSS, Claresholm FCSS, Claresholm Food Bank, Nanton Food Bank, West Meadow Elementary School, WCCHS, JTF, Stavely Elks, Stavely Rec Board and many more.
- Roots of Empathy training - connect with our babies in the community so students learn how to care at a very young age.
- Work collaboratively with Stavely Preschool to provide exemplary early-learning programming.
- Recognizing the needs of students: Participate in PD opportunities such as the "Brain Game", the Blanket Activity, Mental Health Core Component Training.
- Maintain our Stavely School website and Twitter account up to current and appealing, so that families can find current and relevant information and opportunities happening locally for their children.
- Adhering to all legal structures in place: Alberta Education Act, FOIP, field trip legal guidelines, ATA, LRSD Administrative procedures, LRSD Board procedures.
- Ensuring all of our students basic needs (and more) are met. If students require food or clothing, I access resources to find them.
- Applying and receiving grant money from various sources to provide opportunities to our students. Most recently, I received $500 from Nutrients for Life to start our gardening club. All proceeds from the gardening club were donated to the local animal care centre.
- Helping manage and fund raise for community and global fundraisers: We Scare Hunger, Terry Fox Run, food drive and toiletries drive for our local food bank.
- Taking advantage of any learning opportunities that I come across or are shared with me to help me build my foundational knowledge in a variety of social contexts.
